Homemade thin crust pizza

Homemade Pizza

Christopher: ‘Pizza is a lot like sex, even when it’s bad it is kind of good – Luckily for you, this is a great recipe’

Zoë: ‘Christopher whipped up the sauce and I tried my hand at the dough. Once you have made this I am certain you’ll think twice about purchasing a pizza from your local supermarket – enjoy :)’

For the sauce:

I can of chopped tomatoes, blitzed in a blender until smooth

Four cloves of garlic, crushed

Salt and pepper

Three tablespoons of parmesan

One tablespoon of honey

 For the dough:

Two cups of strong white flour, plus a bit for the surface

One table spoon of olive oil

One teaspoon of yeast

One teaspoon of salt

200ml of warm water

For the toppings:

One large ball of mozzarella, cut into thin slices (about 5 thin slices for each pizza)

Dried basil and oregano

Whatever you want else, we’ve gone for one Margherita and one mushroom and spinach

Make it:

1. Cook all the sauce ingredients in a pan on low heat, simmer for 20 minutes until nice and thick. Set aside and leave to cool

2. Time to make your dough while the sauce is cooling. Sieve your flour into a mixing bowl. Sprinkle in the yeast and salt mixing well

3. Make a well in the dry ingredients, pour in the oil then slowly add the warm water. Fold it all in until you have a wet (but not too sticky) dough.

4. Time to get messy: place some flour on a worktop, flour your hands then grab your dough ball and start kneading. Knead for around 5 minutes, adding flour as you go to stop it sticking

5. When you are happy with your dough, split it in half and create two equal sized balls

6. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough, you want it to be pretty thin as it will raise slightly in the oven – ours seemed to roll into squares so we went with it

7. Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees

8. Top your base liberally with your homemade sauce, place about 4-5 slices of mozzarella (don’t forget it spreads as it melts) and then top with your choice of toppings!

9. Place in the oven for 8-10 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the crust looks golden

10. Serve and enjoy!
